Loss due to corrosion effect in India is estimated at about Rs. 36,000 crore per annum. Stating this while inaugurating the seminar on ‘State-of-Art Technologies for Refinery Corrosion Management’ organized by PetroFed with Honeywell as knowledge partner on January 08, 2010 at New Delhi, Mr. C. S. Das, Executive Director (M&I), IndianOil added that developed nations around the globe confirmed that corrosion is responsible for losses amounting to approximately 3-4% of GNP. It has been estimated, Mr. Das said, that about 15 % of the total corrosion loss could be avoided if currently available corrosion control techniques are effectively applied.
Welcoming the participants earlier, Mr. S. L. Das, Director (BD & C), PetroFed said that Indian refiners and the oil and gas industry can ill afford productivity, efficiency and profitability, erosion due to corrosion.
