Dynamics of the Oil Price Cycle

‘Oil prices have witnessed high volatility during the past few years and have risen by over 50 dollars per barrel during the past two years’, said Shri Suresh Mathur, Director, GSPC and former Managing Director, Petronet LNG Limited while chairing a guest lecture by Mr. James Burkhard, Managing Director of the Global Oil Group of IHS CERA, USA at New Delhi on February 14, 2011.

Mr. Burkhard, in PetroFed’s series of Guest Lectures and Thought Leadership Programmes, dwelt on ‘Shorts & Longs: Dynamics of the Oil Price Cycle'.

He brought out that oil prices are cyclic in nature.  It is easy to identify their dynamics in hindsight but difficult to recognise where we are in a current cycle and when it will end.

The highly interactive lecture was followed by an intense Q&A session, which debated the entire gamut of the future of oil & gas growth, availability and pricing.
