Oil & Gas Investments in Middle East

There is a vast Indian population in various countries of the Middle East, which has abundant oil & gas reserves.  India, on the other hand, imports over 75% of its requirement of crude oil and the quantum is likely to go up further in times to come.  Stating this during his inaugural address at the PetroFed Seminar on “Oil & Gas Investments in Iraq and the Middle East: Implications for India” Mr. Sunil Jain, Joint Secretary (IC), MoP&NG highlighted the changing geo-political dynamics.

The focused half-day seminar was organised in knowledge partnership with member company, PFC Energy, USA which is a leading global advisory firm providing energy insights to companies and governments across the world.

Welcoming participants earlier, Shri S. L. Das, Director (BD&C), PetroFed pointed out that the oil industry was at a cusp and with easy oil not being available any more there was a shift towards the more abundantly available resource of natural gas.  Oil availability in the deep waters, he added, may become more expensive after the recent incident in the Gulf of Mexico which may be a game changer.

The main session was chaired by Mr. S. K. Manglik, former CMD, ONGC.  The PFC experts from the United States were Mr. Fareed Mohamedi, Partner & Head Markets & Country Strategies Group and Dr. Raad Alkadiri, Partner & Head of PFC Global Risk.  Ms. Gauri Jauhar, Senior Consultant, Strategy and Competition for the Upstream and Gas Group of PFC Energy, based at Kuala Lumpur, highlighted the role Indian companies can play in the GCC and Iraq.

An extended Q&A session demonstrated the keen interest generated among the senior officials of the oil & gas industry present.
