In its continuing endeavour to enhance and upgrade knowledge of the teaching faculty , the Petroleum Federation of India in its series of Industry Academia Interface organized a four-day workshop on ‘Transportation of Oil & Gas through Pipelines’ jointly with Lovraj Kumar Memorial Trust ,Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Pipelines Division) and the National Institute of Technology (N.I.T.),Patna during June 15-18,2011. A study tour was also undertaken on the concluding day to the Barauni- Kanpur Pipeline (BKPL) Installation of IndianOil at Sipara, Patna.
The 24 teaching faculty from nine Engineering Colleges and Universities of Bihar, West Bengal and Jharkhand attended 14 technical sessions conducted by industry experts. They were provided complimentary boarding and lodging and there was no participation fee.
Welcoming participants ,Dr. S K Verma Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering ,NIT Patna elaborated on the details of the workshop.
In his Presidential Address Dr. U.C.Ray , Director NIT Patna appreciated the holding of such Industry-Academia programmes and observed that such interaction need to be augmented as they are important for not only education but also knowledge and skill development.He informed that at NIT ,Patna , industry members are always included in discussions with academicians on amendments to the curriculum.
Shri J.P.Ojha, Executive Director(ERPL),IndianOil Pipelines Division in his inaugural address elaborated on the tremendous growth of the oil & gas industry and the massive expansion of pipeline network contemplated in the country .Such programmes,he added, will go a long way in helping the teaching faculty prepare students for meeting the industry’s requirement of skilled manpower.
In his valedictory address Shri Gautam Ghoshal , DGM(HR)ERPL,IndianOil stressed on the need to align academic courses at Institutes with the industry requirements.
Shri S.L.Das Director (BD&C) PetroFed proposed a vote of thanks. The participants rated the overall effectiveness of the programme at 76%.
