In its continuing series of Guest Lectures and Thought Leadership Programmes, PetroFed organised a lecture on ‘Enterprise-wide Decision Support for Refining and Petrochemical Companies’ by Sh. Satyendra Dubey,Head (Sales & Marketing) for Honeywell's SCM (Supply Chain Management) on 15th November, 2006 at the PetroFed Conference Hall, New Delhi.

Session Chairman Sh. S.V. Narasimhan, Director – Finance, IndianOil welcomed Sh. Dubey and gave an overview of the significant benefits that can be derived through structured decision making aids and systems.  He was earlier welcomed by Director General, PetroFed, Sh. A.K. Arora.
Shri Dubey systematically analysed the market drivers in the refining and petro-chemical areas and after analyzing how they can respond gave specific technology examples in forecasting, planning, scheduling, and executing decisions.

Shri Satyendra Dubey was earlier responsible for architecting, designing and implementing supply chain management and business solutions for a number of oil majors in the Asia Pacific region. Before joining Honeywell in 2001, he had worked in various positions in refining, petrochemical and chemical companies including SAIL, Reliance etc. He is a Bachelor of Technology (Chemical) from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.

Shri Dubey brought out that refining and petrochemical companies are operating in a very dynamic economic environment with fluctuating feedstock prices putting pressures on margins. At the same time the global economy has become more interdependent with opening up of local economies. The effect is being felt by companies in terms of cheap imports and/or global players entering the domestic market. This has also built up competitive pressures on margins. The lecture focussed on these changes globally and their impact on Indian companies. It brought out the importance of aligning decision making at all levels with the corporate strategy and how this can be done by establishing enterprise-wide decision support systems and the current state-of-art technologies.
