In its series of Guest Lectures and Thought Leadership programmes PetroFed organized a lecture on 'Development of Gas Market in India: Opportunities & Challenges' by Dr. U. D. Choubey, Director General, Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) and former, CMD, GAIL (India) Limited on February 17, 2010 at New Delhi.
Chairing the session, Dr. C. R. Prasad, Chairman & Managing Director, Everest Power and former CMD, GAIL gave a detailed background of the formative years of gas marketing in India and the potential it holds.
In a brilliant exposition Dr. Choubey brought out the multifarious dimensions of gas market development in the country. He brought out that if appropriate timely actions were not taken the country may not be able to utilise the natural gas available in the country. Among the key issues, he listed rationalisation of gas pricing and early setting up of a gas pipeline highway as critical for development. Optimum utilisation, he added, has also to be made of the LNG terminals in the country.
The interest aroused in the subject in the over two score senior industry participants was evident from the extended open session when Dr. Choubey candidly answered a host of questions.
