In its series of Guest Lectures and Thought Leadership programmes PetroFed organised a lecture on "Climate change - opportunities and challenges for oil & gas sector" by Dr. P. Ram Babu, Associate Director, PricewaterhouseCoopers on March 17, 2006 at SCOPE Convention Centre, New Delhi .
Chairing the session Sh. R.K. Narang, former chairman, IndianOil, Distinguished Fellow TERI and Advisor, Petroleum Business, RIL highlighted the importance of the subject and its effect on the developing countries in the context of Kyoto protocol.
Dr. P. Rambabu, Associate Director, PwC elaborated on the global warming potential of green-house gases and the manner in which the Indian oil and gas industry can take advantage of the Kyoto protocol and Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) considering the global demand for CERs. He dwelt on the approved methodology of the CDM executive board and cited examples of how the Indian oil and gas industry can take advantage of the same.
Introducing Dr. P. Rambabu Shri Narang observed that he has been associated with structuring more than 150 CDM projects for nearly 50 organisations. He leads the PwC India Practice at Sustainable Business Solutions. His expertise in sustainability development straddles the fields of Climate Change, Public Policy Support, Stakeholder Engagement, Sustainability Reporting, Business Ethics and Corporate Governance. He has extensively contributed to the endeavors of international agencies like the UNDP, UNICEF, UNEP, World Bank, and ADB and led many of their sustainable development projects. He has also assisted nearly 20 organisations in their various Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. Championing the cause of GhG mitigation since 2000, Dr. Ram Babu has engaged with the Government of India and multilateral organisations advising them on approaches to carbon trading and activating Clean Development Mechanism in India .
The subject aroused tremendous interest among the senior industry participants which was evident by the large number of questions raised.
