Industry Academia Workshop on Natural Gas and LNG

In its continuing endeavour to provide an opportunity to teaching faculty to upgrade their knowledge the Petroleum Federation of India organised a three-day Industry Academia Interface on ‘A to Z of Natural Gas and LNG’ during October 19-21, 2011 at Dahej, Gujarat, in association with Lovraj Kumar Memorial Trust (LKMT) and Petronet LNG Ltd. A study tour was also organised to the LNG Plant and Jetty at Dahej.

Mr. A.K. Chopra, VP (HR & PR), Petronet LNG Ltd briefed the participants and invitees about the workshop and its objectives while complimenting PetroFed for taking the initiative in organising the same during his welcome address.

While inaugurating the workshop Mr. C.S.Mani, Director (T), Petronet LNG Ltd. stated that gas had emerged as the preferred fuel of the 21st century. He explained to participants how the gas sector in the country has been transformed with the commissioning of Petronet’s LNG-Regassification Terminal at Dahej and the large gas finds on the East coast in KG Basin. As a result of these developments, he added, the share of Natural Gas and LNG in the energy mix is expected to go up manifold in the coming years and will play a major role in meeting the energy security requirements of the country. This, he observed, would require deployment of large number of skilled manpower which this workshop will help fulfill by augmenting the knowledge and skills of the teaching faculty, he added.

While proposing a vote of thanks Shri S.S. Ramgarhia, Director (Policy & Planning), PetroFed mentioned that so far 17 Industry-Academia workshops had been organised since 2007. He thanked Petronet LNG Ltd. for hosting the workshop and making all arrangements.
The workshop was attended by 22 participants, 13 teaching faculty from seven institutions and nine young officers from the industry. There were ten lectures during nine sessions. The valedictory session was chaired by Shri Suresh Mathur, Director, GSPC and the first CEO and Managing Director of Petronet LNG Ltd. Almost every aspect of LNG was covered by industry experts during their lectures.

The participants rated the overall effectiveness of the programme at 87%.
