The first of its kind Workshop at the National Level on Data Quality was inaugurated by Shri. Prabh Das, Joint Secretary, MoP&NG on 19 th February 2007 at New Delhi . Organised by the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) of the MoP&NG in association with Petroleum Federation of India (PetroFed), it involved not only companies in the upstream, downstream and gas sector of the hydrocarbon industry, but also the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata and experts from PetroFed member company and knowledge partner PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
The Workshop follows the signing of a MoU by MoP&NG with the Department of Energy of the U.S.A on exchange of information relating to the hydrocarbon sector under which Energy Information Administration (EIA) for the US Government and PPAC for MoP&NG are the designated agencies to workout cooperative activities to enhance knowledge relating to collection and analysis of data.
In his keynote address Dr. B. Mohanty, Director, PPAC dwelt on the currency, accuracy, correctness, completeness and relevance of data consistent with emerging issues.
Shri Prabh Das in his inaugural address highlighted the importance of relevant and up-to-date data in the planning process.
Presentations were made on behalf of the downstream, upstream and gas sector of the hydrocarbon industries on the ‘flow of data' in each sector.
Experts from the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata made presentations on ‘Data Quality and Reliability', ‘Data Mining', ‘Data Security' and ‘Time Series Modelling'. Shri P. Banerjee and Shri Deepak Mahurkar, ED and Associate Director, PwC respectively made the presentation on ‘Data Management System - A Solution Perspective'.
Participants were earlier welcomed by Shri A.K. Arora, Director General, PetroFed. A vote of thanks was proposed at the end by Shri Vijay Sethi, Additional Director, PPAC.
