The crucial role of Research & Development, Innovation and out-of-the-box thinking for a rapidly growing country like India which imports nearly 80% of its crude oil requirements was stressed by Shri G. C. Chaturvedi, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas while inaugurating a leadership seminar organised by PetroFed on ‘Innovation in Oil & Gas’ at New Delhi on October 19, 2011. The seminar was organised in knowledge partnership with Erehwon Innovation Consulting Private Limited and in association with member companies Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Oil India Limited.
Prompted by a reference in the theme address of Shri Rajiv Narang, Founder, Chairman & Managing Director, Erehwon Innovation Consulting Private Limited, Mr. Chaturvedi cited as an example of social and public service innovation the innovative concept of Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) introduced during his earlier assignment in the Ministry of Health. He complimented PetroFed for taking initiative in organising the seminar on Innovation.
Earlier Shri R. S. Butola, Chairman, PetroFed and Chairman, IndianOil, elaborated in his welcome address on the imperative need for stepping up innovation and leveraging it as a corporate strategy. He also drew attention to the fact that PetroFed has instituted annual awards for excellence in Innovation by a team and an individual since 2007 which carry a trophy, a citation and a cash prize.
The day-long seminar was divided into three sessions chaired by Shri S. N. Jha, President, IOT Infrastructure & Energy Services Limited; Shri B. K. Datta, Director (Refineries), BPCL and Shri Anand Kumar, Director, Petrotech Society and former Director (R&D), IndianOil. There were 14 presentations by eminent speakers from India and abroad.
