In its continuing series of Guest Lectures and thought leadership programmes, PetroFed organised a lecture on'Indian Energy Scenario : Some Issues' by Sh. Chudmani Ratnam, former Chairman, Oil India Limited at PetroFed conference hall on December 19, 2006 .
Introducing the speaker and the subject, Prof. T.K. Roy, Fellow, Indian Academy of Sciences & Indian National Academy of Engineering, highlighted the importance of efficient utilisation of energy in economic growth.
Sh. Ratnam in his presentation succinctly drew international parallels to demonstrate the relevance of energy in economic growth and how some of the leading world economies were addressing the problem. He deplored the fact that petroleum products were taxed heavily before being utilised for value addition. He gave a graphic presentation of the international scenario and geo-political situation in oil and gas from which lessons could be learnt by India .
Sh. Ratnam specialised in petroleum exploration and development at the Imperial college, London and has served in various countries in the world. He was Chairman Oil India Limited and after superannuation has been advising a host of companies.
