A new era in the field of information technology is being ushered in with cloud computing and it is set to change the way one uses servers and the software, said Mr. S.V. Narasimhan, Director (Finance), IndianOil while chairing the guest lecture organized by PetroFed at New Delhi on August 20, 2009. Cloud Computing, Mr. Narasimhan added, portends a major change in how we store information and run applications.
The key speaker was Mr. Anindya Pal, Managing Consultant (Performance Improvement Practice), PricewaterhouseCoopers. He was joined by Mr. Salil Agrawal and Mr. Ashish Bhatia.
Mr. Anindya Pal, who is a certified Project Management Professional from PMI, USA with over two decades of experience in Project Management, elucidated in detail the concept, architecture and advantages of cloud computing. Everything, he said is hosted in the 'cloud' - a nebulous assemblage of computers and servers accessed via the internet.
Moving ahead from Client-Server based architecture, it enables a shift from the computer to the user, from applications to tasks, and to data that can be accessed and shared with anyone and from anywhere. It is a whole new world of collaborative computing available at a lower cost.
Mr. Anindya Pal, who has also worked as Global Project Manager with IBM, along with his colleagues answered a host of queries during and after the lecture on the subject.
