A detailed presentation on market segmentation approach for optimising diesel fuel specification in India was made to the Energy Think Tank (ETT) at PetroFed, New Delhi . The presentation by Sh. Ashok Dhar, Vice President, RIL and a member of the Economic, Policy and Public Perceptions Task Force of PetroFed assisted by Sh. Vivek Srivastava, Head (Retail Engineering), RIL covered not only the air quality trends and studies in India but also the world-wide diesel quality trend and market segmentation approach. An article on the subject had earlier been published in the PetroFed Journal (Vol. III Issue 3 July –September 2005).

This was followed by another presentation on Global trends and Indian Scenario in refining and pricing. The presentation brought out clearly that there was global opportunity for clean fuel exports from India . There was, however, need for correction of inverted duty structure, introduction of specific excise duties, uniform VAT, subsidies on SKO & LPG to only BPL families and a market driven pricing.

Energy Think Tank Chairman and former Secretary, MoP&NG Sh. T.N.R. Rao and other members of ETT appreciated the presentations. They also sought clarifications on some of the Customer Assurance issues in the Retail Proposition presentation made by RIL to the ETT on April 8, 2006 .
