PetroFed associated with the India Energy Forum and Petrotech Society in organizing the 4 th Petro India 2006 conference at New Delhi on January 21, 2006 . The theme of this year's conference was “Towards Energy Independence – Challenges and Opportunities”.

The inaugural address at the conference was delivered by Prof. Kirit S. Parikh, Member (Energy)- Planning Commission. The other key speakers were Sh. B.K. Chaturvedi, Cabinet Secretary and Sh. T.N.R. Rao, former Secretary, MoP&NG and Chairman Organising Committee of the conference. Participants were earlier welcomed by Sh. P.S. Bami, President, India Energy Forum and a vote of thanks was proposed by Sh. A.K. Arora, DG, PetroFed.

After the theme presentation by Sh. Deepak Mahurkar, Sr. Consultant, PwC there was a CEO's Round Table where the participants were Sh. S.C. Tripathi, former Secretary, MoP&NG, Sh. U.D. Choube, Director (M) GAIL, Sh. Shashi Kumar, CMD, Coal India , Sh. A.N. Sinha, MD&CEO, Essar Oil and Sh. B.C. Bora, former CMD, ONGC.

The session on International Collaboration for Energy Security was chaired by Sh. Prabir Sen Gupta, Director - IIFT. Among the speakers were Sh. Talmiz Ahmed, Addl. Secretary, MoP&NG and Sh. S.V. Rao, ED, ONGC.

The session on Alternative Energy Sources and Energy Efficiency was chaired by Sh. Pradeep Chaturvedi, Chairman, Safety & Quality Forum. Among the speakers were Sh. V.S. Verma, DG, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Dr. D.M. Kale, ED (KDMIPE) ONGC on Coal gasification; Sh. S. Thakur, ED, Nuclear Power Corporation on Nuclear Energy; Sh. Prem Sawhney, VP (CBM) RIL on CBM and Sh. R.K. Dua, Director, PCRA on Energy Conservation. The rapporteur for the session was Sh. Y. Sahai, Director (Comm. & Mktg.), PetroFed.
