Change from India 's Perspective |
In its series of Guest Lectures and thought leadership programmes, PetroFed organised a lecture on ‘Climate change from India 's perspective' by Dr. Jyoti K. Parikh, Executive Director, Integrated Research and Action for Development (IRADe) at New Delhi on August 24, 2005 .
Dr. Parikh, who has worked in the area of international climate change negotiation, delved into the various issues of climate change which affect all of us. Dr. Parikh was also with the 2 nd and 3 rd International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and was a member of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel (STAP) for Global Environmental Facility (GEF). She brought her wide experience in the field of environment science to provide new insight into the subject.
Dr. Parikh effectively brought out the global climate changes in the 20 th century as a result of Green House Gases and their impact on India . The benefits of green house gas mitigation and the mechanisms under the Kyoto Protocol, including Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) were effectively summarised.
The session was chaired by Dr. P.K. Mukhopadhyaya, former Chairman and Director, R&D, IndianOil. Sh. S.L. Das, Director, BD&C, PetroFed welcomed the gathering and proposed a vote of thanks.
The lecture aroused considerable interest among the large number of participants from the industry which was evident in the lively question and answer session.
