A detailed lecture on the genesis, development and provisions of the Right to Information Act 2005 was delivered by Dr. S K Sarkar, Joint Secretary in the Department of Personnel & Training, Government of India at New Delhi on January 25, 2008 in PetroFed’s continuing series of guest lectures and thought leadership programmes.
Chairing the session, Shri B.K. Bakhshi, former Chairman, IndianOil highlighted the growing importance of the RTI Act and exhorted participants to take advantage of the Act in public interest, since not many countries offered this privilege.
Dr. S K Sarkar, an IAS Officer of West Bengal Cadre (1979), is a Doctorate in Economics from the State University of New York, Stony Brook, New York and was earlier Director, TERI for several years where he researched in the infrastructure sector and sustainable development.
The lecture attracted a host of queries and in the prolonged discussions Dr. Sarkar and his colleague in the DoPT, Shri K G Verma, Director, clarified doubts and issues. It was pointed out by them that substantial information on this subject is also available on the following websites.
