To enhance and update knowledge of teaching faculty and strengthen Industry Academia Interface, a three day workshop on ‘Defect Assessment and Maintenance of Pipelines’ was organized by Petroleum Federation of India jointly with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (Pipelines) and Lovraj Kumar Memorial Trust (LKMT) from July 26-28, 2010 at UPES, Dehradun. A study tour was undertaken to Indianoil’s Pipeline Terminal at Panipat on July 28.
Twenty one faculty members from four Engineering Institutes attended the 10 lectures in two days, of which eight were delivered by experts from IOCL (Pipelines) and one each from Engineers India Ltd. and GAIL (India) Limited. There was no participation fee and boarding and lodging was provided by IndianOil (Piplelines).
Welcoming participants, Prof. G.C. Tiwari, Pro-Vice Chancellor, UPES called upon the industry to help academia in taking up research activities/ projects through endowments in chairs and sabbatical.
Shri K. K. Jha, Director (Pipelines), IndianOil in his inaugural address highlighted predictive maintenance practices and innovative approach adopted by IndianOil in maintaining their network of about 10000 km pipelines.
Shri S. S. Ramgarhia, Director (Policy and Planning), PetroFed elaborated on the background of the programme while Shri H.P. Sahi, DGM (C), IndianOil (Pipelines), in his valedictory address at the Panipat Refinery Pipeline Terminal, gave an overview of IOCL’s pipeline network in the Northern Region and the Defect Assessment Technologies and Maintenance practices adopted.
A vote of thanks was proposed by Shri S. S. Ramgarhia.
The overall programme effectiveness was rated by participants at 83%.
