Sustainability & Carbon Management

The critical concerns on climate change & carbon emissions were brought out in his theme address by Mr. A.B. Chakraborty, Group General Manager & Chief Carbon Management Group, ONGC at a Top Management Conclave on ‘Sustainability & Carbon Management in Hydrocarbon Sector’ organized by PetroFed in association with Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. and Numaligarh Refinery Limited on April 27, 2011 at New Delhi.

Inaugurating the conclave, Chief Guest Dr. Prodipto Ghosh, Distinguished Fellow, TERI and former Secretary, Ministry of Environment & Forests dwelt on the emerging significance of Shale Gas as a relatively environment friendly fuel.

Welcoming participants earlier Mr. S.L. Das, Director (BD&C), PetroFed congratulated companies like the Mathura Refinery of IndianOil for attaining ISO 14046 certification dealing with quantification & reporting Greenhouse Gas emissions and removals.  The Prime Minister, he added, had also urged the Planning Commission to keep sustainability and low carbon issues in mind while preparing the draft approach to the 12th Plan. 

The day-long conclave witnessed 11 presentations on issues of Sustainability & Carbon Management in two extended sessions chaired by Mr. Anand Kumar, Director, Petrotech Society and Mr. B.P. Baliga, Executive Director (HS&E), IndianOil respectively.  There was active floor participation from over 120 top management personnel present at the conclave.
