Taking advantage of the brief visit of Mr. Jean Sentenac, President & Chief Executive Officer, Axens, a lecture by him was organised by PetroFed on ‘Refining & Petrochemicals Market Trends’ on October 27, 2010 at New Delhi.

Organised under PetroFed’s series of Guest Lectures and Thought Leadership Programmes in association with Lovraj Kumar Memorial Trust, the session was chaired by Sh. R.K. Ghosh, Executive Director (Incharge), Panipat Refinery, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.

Welcoming participants, Sh. A.K. Arora, Director General, PetroFed highlighted the need for technology upgradation and sweating of assets to earn higher refining margins since India is emerging as a refining hub.

In his opening remarks, Mr. R.K. Ghosh also elaborated on some of these issues and touched upon integrated refining and petrochemical complexes like the one at Panipat.

Mr. Sentenac dwelt on both issues in considerable detail.  He not only spoke of the demand and market trends but delved into refining and petrochemical integration, residue conversion technologies, as well as coal conversion technologies.

Mr. Sentenac and his colleagues Mr. Jean-Paul Margotin, Managing Director and Mr. Mohan Lal, Executive Director, Axens India answered a host of questions at the end of the session.  Over four dozen executives from 18 organisations participated in the programme.
