India 's Energy Security – The Role of Nuclear Energy

In its guest lecture and thought leadership programme series, PetroFed organised a lecture by Shri Ratan K. Sinha , Distinguished Scientist and Director, Reactor Design & Development Group, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre on Friday May 27, 2005 at New Delhi. He gave keen insight on ‘ India 's Energy Security – The Role of Nuclear Energy'.

Being an internationally recognised expert in nuclear reactor technology and a member of several national and international committees Shri Sinha expounded on the role of nuclear energy in India 's energy security and the physics behind nuclear power. He dwelt on the Indian nuclear programme and its rationale. He explained the Indian advanced heavy water reactor and elaborated on the Indian programme for generation of Hydrogen using nuclear energy. The Indian atomic energy programme, Sh. Sinha said, had come of age. Nuclear energy, he contended was safe and cited an American study according to which Americans living near coal fired power plants are exposed to higher radiation doses than those living near nuclear power plants that meet Government regulations.

The lecture was widely appreciated by professionals of member companies, the power industry, non-conventional energy resources personnel, academia and invitees.

Participants were earlier welcomed by Sh. S.L. Das, Director (BD&C) and Sh. Sinha was felicitated by Dr. T.K. Roy, eminent consultant and Professor emeritus in Chemical Engineering. . (View Presentations)
