"Industry discusses Draft Rules for regulation of and safety in offshore exploration, exploitation, conservation" |
The government is in the process of finalising rules for regulation of and safety in, offshore exploration, exploitation, conservation and management of crude oil and natural gas and matters connected therewith. Towards this end, Oil Industry Safety Directorate (OISD) has framed draft ‘Petroleum and Natural Gas (Safety in Offshore Operations) Rules 2006’ under Oilfield (Regulations & Development) Act 1948 to be read with relevant provisions of Maritime Zones of India (MZI) Act 1976.
To seek industry views on the draft rules framed by OISD, PetroFed circulated the same on August 4th and sought industry views by August 18th 2006. The industry views were consolidated and discussed in detail at a meeting convened at PetroFed on August 28th 2006.
A presentation was made by OISD on that date on the basis of suggestions received from industry members.
At the conclusion of the meeting industry members were requested to submit their additional views by September 1, 2006 so that a final draft can be prepared by OISD for circulation.
