A Guest Lecture on ‘Applications of Nanotechnology in Petroleum/Energy Sector' by Dr. R.P. Verma, ED (R&D), IOCL was organised by PetroFed in association with Lovraj Kumar Memorial Trust (LKMT) at New Delhi on June 28, 2006 .
Chairing the session Sh. J.P. Kapur, Trustee, LKMT introduced the subject and the speaker. The term nanotechnology has evolved over the years to mean ‘anything smaller than micro-technology'. Though well-known for its applications in other industries it is relatively new in the petroleum industry, said Sh. J.P. Kapur.
Dr. Verma's presentation provided an overview of the known and future applications of nanotechnology. He dwelt on Nano-science verus Nanotechnology. He covered in detail Nano-technology in Petroleum /Energy Sector, Nanocatalysts in refining and petrochemicals, Nano fuel-additives including Nanotechnology in lubricants and tribology. He also covered Nanomaterials in E&P as well as hydrogen storage and carbon Nanotubes and their applications.
The hard part, Dr. R.P. Verma said is not discovering, it is development and commercialisation where collaboration between nanotechnology developers with application developers is essential. The lecture aroused tremendous interest.
