PetroFed actively assisted the Lovraj Kumar Memorial Trust (LKMT) in organising the 15th Lovraj Kumar Memorial Lecture by the eminent Jurist and former Attorney General of India, Mr. Soli J. Sorabjee on August 29, 2008 at New Delhi. 

The speaker, who was received by the LKMT trustees including Mr. A. K. Arora, DG, PetroFed, spoke on ‘Ethics and Democratic Society’.  He emphasised that there can not be a genuine democracy without an ethical content and dimension and that ethical norms and their observance are most needed in administration, in the business of governance, and in public life.  Ethical norms and values, he said, cannot meaningfully exist in a society which is riddled with corruption.  He called for laws so that the corrupt should not enjoy the fruits of their misdeeds. Mere fines and jail terms are not sufficient deterrents, he added.

The programme began with an invocation to Goddess Saraswati by scientists of the Sri Ram Institute for Industrial Research and a welcome by Prof. K. Vasudeva, Secretary of the Lovraj Kumar Memorial Trust.  The Chairman of the session and Chairman, LKMT, Dr. Abid Hussain introduced the speaker and later summed up the proceedings.  A vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Shyam Bang, Chairman, Northern Regional Centre, Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers.
