To mark the world environment day, PetroFed organised a lecture on June 2, 2005 by Prof. Dr. Arvind Krishan, Head of the Department of Architecture, School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi on ‘A New Language of Architecture : In Quest for a Sustainable Future.
Prof. Dr. Arvind Krishan is an architect, planner and structure engineer with a Master's in Architecture from University of Washington , USA , a Master of Structure Engineering from Chandigarh and a Ph.D. from IIT, Delhi in the field of Energy Efficient Buildings. He is an international consultant to World Bank and a member of UNEP Expert Committee on Eco Cities.
His lecture was thus in keeping of the theme of World Environment Day 2005 -- ‘Green Cities – Plan for the Planet'. Dr. Krishan brought out the synonymous nature of sustainability and architecture. Architecture, he said, has to change completely and find generic solutions. Design, according to Dr. Krishna, is a powerful tool to achieve balance between man and nature. The only limit to what you can do is your own imagination. He suggested an ‘Energy Resources Flow -- Ecological Foot-Print' model developed by him.
Dr. Krishan was earlier introduced to invitees by Sh. Y. Sahai, Director (Comm. & Mktg.), PetroFed and was welcomed by a bouquet of flowers by the Session Chairman, Sh. C.R. Prasad, Chairman, Everest Power and former CMD, GAIL.
The session aroused immense interest and the lively interaction highlighted the need for energy efficient architecture to live more harmoniously with nature for sustainable development.
