The Japan Petroleum Energy Centre (JPEC), which is an organisation under the Japanese Government, renewed their association with PetroFed during early December, 2006. At a meeting at PetroFed on December 4, 2006 their senior researcher in the Research & Planning Department, Mr. Minoru Iwata made a presentation on the comparison between Indian and Japanese petroleum industry. They exchanged notes on their concerns in the petroleum product’s export market with India likely to emerge as a major export hub.
They have offered to coordinate and assist in providing Japanese desulphurisation technology to Indian refiners since they are using only ultra low sulphur transportation fuels since 2005.
